The New Year in Astrology & Introducing The 1st Sign of Aries

The start of our new astrological year recently began with the Sun entering the sign of Aries.  The Sun shifts into Aries on March 21 and stays here until April 19 (dates are approximate and vary slightly by year).  In astrology, the planetary cycle begins in Aries traveling through all 12 signs and finishes up in Pisces.  Each sign has a variety of planetary influences which illuminate different aspects of the soul and help guide and inspire us along our soul’s journey.    
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and is ruled by Mars.  Its element is Fire which has to do with energy, zest and active life force.  Individuals with a fire influence tend to take action and inspire others with their vision.   The modality of Aries is Cardinal, meaning it starts things, get things going and initiates action.

bold, impulsive, straightforward and one who takes the initiative.  Individuals with this cosmic influence possess the energy, drive and ambition to accomplish what they desire.  Through the influence of Mars in Aries we learn to act as independent and self-sufficient individuals and project ourselves into the world.  This energy includes exerting courage in our actions and standing up for our rights, the ability to assert oneself and express anger when necessary.

When expressed in healthy ways this energy can result in great accomplishments, acts of courage and significant achievements.  There is also an innate confidence that is likely present with this energy where there is no more second guessing yourself or hesitating on things as decisiveness takes the lead.  You’re more apt to proactively jump in and assert yourself and experience an increased sense that you deserve to be here and claim what you want.  Your passion and drive take over and you may find yourself making zero apologies for being you.   For those connected to Aries energy, you are likely to find it hard to understand why others aren’t like this since asserting and expressing yourself openly is so natural to you.  Aries is sure to inspire a spark from the fire within you, and just like a ram, you like to face things head on and go forward with courage.

As with every cosmic planetary influence, there are also shadow expressions.  In the case of Aries, this can include reckless aggression and in extreme cases, violence, when the power of Mars energy is left unchecked.  Also, watch for tendencies to be selfish and self-absorbed.

There is also a connection between your planetary influences and body parts.  In fact, medical astrologers often give advice to clients about the areas of the body in which they are most likely to experience trouble based on what they find in their individual chart.  Using Aries as an example, if you have any of your planets, Sun, Moon, or Rising Sign in Aries, you are more prone to more headaches than other people due to the association of Aries with the head.  Aries also rules the face, brain and eyes and Mars rules the muscular system, the blood, the male sexual organs, and the adrenal glands.  If these energies are repressed you may experience a deficiency in one of these bodily functions and complain of having too little energy or drive in your daily life. 

The energies of Aries are powerful to say the least!  Even if you don’t have Aries (Mars) represented in your personal chart, you will still experience its influence when the Sun is in Aries and during other astrological events involving Aries (Mars) such as retrogrades, since these energies and unique planetary influences are being illuminated.    Use this energy to go after what your heart desires and take some risk, do something that takes you out of your comfort zone or express the real you without one ounce of apology for being YOU!
